Decking the Halls in Our Master Bedroom
Holiday decor in the bedroom is a welcome surprise!

A hint of green in every corner.

A hint of green in every corner.

This was the first year that I have decorated our master bedroom. In the past, I always found some cute trees for the kids and made sure their rooms were festive and fun but never the master bedroom. This year I decided it was a perfect time to start with ours!

I always recommend finding spaces in your home that might be unique to decorate! It's fun to come around a corner or through a doorway and see the holiday spirit by surprise. It doesn’t have to be grand or over the top. Maybe just a sign that celebrates the season. Our bedroom was actually the perfect place for Christmas cheer because of its a reprieve from the hustle and bustle.

It wouldn’t be a tree without the star.

It is a magical space in the evening with the view of the mountains and lake. And we have the perfect corner for a tree that shows off its twinkling lights both from the inside and outside of our home.

Let me know if you decorated an unusual space in your home this year or tell me your favorite room to deck the halls with and bring on the holidays! Here’s to a very Merry Christmas in every room!

This is our first Christmas in our new home! Decking the halls brings on a fresh meaning when you are decorating a new space for the first time. It is great fun placing the decorations you have had for years. Unlike the past, I keep adding more pieces as I find them. While I have so many ideas for the future, I am trying to stay present in this year. It doesn’t have to be perfect – just festive and bright.

Look up for more ways to decorate!

I'm not so much a red and green holiday girl. Instead, I love to focus on gold, silver, white, and typically, an icy blue. To set the tone, I love matching my holiday décor with existing colors in the room.

This year we tucked our tree in the corner, behind the seating in our great room. It’s much easier than rearranging all the furniture like we have in the past. The tree adds a little magic to the room with its beautiful light, especially at night.

Our kitchen was fun this year too. The first thing we placed was a lovely wreath over our cooktop! Adding décor all around makes every room warmer and more inviting. Like many of you, we gather here often, and it’s nice that it’s as festive as the rest of our home.

Villa Project: Master Bath
From teeny bedroom to ensuite!

From teeny bedroom to ensuite!

With each renovation project, I have several fun transformations in mind that hopefully will manifest the way I have them designed in my head. Because we have no blueprint for many of our renovation plans, we aren’t always sure about the outcome. So, I need my guys to keep the faith that my vision is going to work out and more importantly – be beautiful! My team is typically very supportive when I propose an idea and this design was no exception.

The all to important demo process!

For this project, one of those transformations was taking a small bedroom and turning it into a master bath. I had some “must haves” on my needs list; 2 vanities, a shower, enclosed closets and, in order to keep the master bedroom as spacious as possible, we also needed vaulted ceilings.

Here it is! We created a space with clean lines, pretty details and everything you need for the perfect master bath. Check out the transformation and let me know what you think!

Villa Project: Kitchen
Bright, open and well-designed, I love the end results of this transformed kitchen.

There are so many things I am excited to share with you about our latest rehab project! This little beauty is on a wonderful street in a stunning Seattle neighborhood and it is loaded with charm. It has some great spaces and I am thrilled to be taking you through the home, one post at a time. Let’s start with the kitchen!

Every centimeter counts!

Every centimeter counts!

This old space lacked function, light and style.

A blank slate is a good place to start.

A blank slate is a good place to start.

While I always like to create an open concept when rehabbing, this little jewel did not offer me that option. So, instead we opened it up a bit more by including the dining room with it’s french doors overlooking the outdoor space. On a warm Seattle day, all 3 spaces merge into a light-filled dining/kitchen space.

White on white: subway tiles - herringbone style, adjusted counter tops, and open shelving

White Cabinets and Walls: That is our typical go-to “color” because it never seems to go out of style. And for this space it was also perfect. I love the bright cabinets, herringbone backsplash, open shelving, quartz countertops, white walls & trim. These clean choices make the space flow more cohesively, making it feel much bigger and brighter. It will also allow the new homeowners to add design accents that make this kitchen – their kitchen.

Open Shelving: Although many homeowners are adding open shelving to their kitchens no matter the kitchen size, it is especially valuable in a smaller kitchen. It adds that light and open feeling as well as keeping decorative items off countertops.

Cabinet Depth: Typically, cabinets are 24” deep and therefore your countertops are just a bit over that. In this case, we have one wall at 24” counter depth and one wall at 18” deep counter space. Even though one counter may be deeper, this provides an illusion of an equal and larger u-shaped kitchen.

These beautiful floors run throughout the first floor providing necessary unity.

Flooring: Hardwood flooring is always a good idea in kitchens. It was especially important here as we kept the first floor entirely hardwood to marry all the spaces together. Another great “open floor plan” trick.

Still in love with stainless; Not changing that plan yet.

Appliances: We chose stainless for appliances. It’s so clean and blends beautifully with the minimal hardware. It’s also a great option because there’s so many brands to choose from!

I love how this kitchen feels. It is laid out perfectly and offers a lot of storage, workspace, and style!

Our New Home: Master Bedroom
walk.jpg

When David and I began the journey of building our new home, I was very clear about our path. I have done this a time or two! (Ha, ha!) I knew all too well the twists and turns that would be ahead of us as we knocked down one dilapidated house and built a beautiful new home in its place. What I didn’t bargain for was how much I would love living in this home and that, hands down, one of my favorite rooms in the house was going to be the Master Bedroom.

Maybe it’s the pretty views or the relaxing paint color. Possibly it’s the new upholstered bed and beautiful nightstands I chose. Maybe adding my favorite lucite & gold bench, a beauty that I bought 5 years ago, was just the right touch. Was it the oversized Capiz Honeycomb chandelier? I fell in love with this Serena & Lily light fixture and snatched it up months before install!  It’s certainly all of these special choices combined into the sweetest master bedroom that a couple could have.

It’s all in the details: My favorite paint color is Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl , the lucite & gold bench is from Jonathan Adler and the cozy, upholstered bed is from Joss & Main

I am not sure why it was a surprise to me. It’s everything that I designed it to be, but it pleasantly became so much more. This tranquil and beautiful room perched in the highest point of the house has become a respite from our busy lives and a place we wake each morning ready to take on our day. #SOWORTHIT!
