Our New Home: Master Bedroom
walk.jpg

When David and I began the journey of building our new home, I was very clear about our path. I have done this a time or two! (Ha, ha!) I knew all too well the twists and turns that would be ahead of us as we knocked down one dilapidated house and built a beautiful new home in its place. What I didn’t bargain for was how much I would love living in this home and that, hands down, one of my favorite rooms in the house was going to be the Master Bedroom.

Maybe it’s the pretty views or the relaxing paint color. Possibly it’s the new upholstered bed and beautiful nightstands I chose. Maybe adding my favorite lucite & gold bench, a beauty that I bought 5 years ago, was just the right touch. Was it the oversized Capiz Honeycomb chandelier? I fell in love with this Serena & Lily light fixture and snatched it up months before install!  It’s certainly all of these special choices combined into the sweetest master bedroom that a couple could have.

It’s all in the details: My favorite paint color is Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl , the lucite & gold bench is from Jonathan Adler and the cozy, upholstered bed is from Joss & Main

I am not sure why it was a surprise to me. It’s everything that I designed it to be, but it pleasantly became so much more. This tranquil and beautiful room perched in the highest point of the house has become a respite from our busy lives and a place we wake each morning ready to take on our day. #SOWORTHIT!

You never know what you will stumble upon.

People always ask me how I find my projects. My response is “it is never the same!” They seem to come to us in million different ways. It could be a call from an agent, or a homeowner that knows what we do and wants to sell off market. It could be someone who wants to collaborate, a reassignment, a friend, or even an acquaintance. However it happens, it is always fun to receive that call! And, once we get word of an opportunity, we are off to check it out.

On this outing, we were looking at two possible “new construction” projects.  Both homes we were called about are considered tear downs.  But you can be the judge.

As we choose our projects, we are definitely armed with the info we have gathered online but a visit to the neighborhood is critical. These are some of the new construction homes that are in the area.

We know their sale and/or asking price which helps us decide what our potential return on these two properties if we stay on budget.

After all of our searching we found our little "diamond" in the rough. Sometimes the uglier the fixer the better. But, we love it!

Our Latest Kitchen Remodel
I love EVERY part of this process!

I love EVERY part of this process!

We have several great projects in the works right now and I am so excited to share them with you! Our project closest to completion is a sweet shingled Laurelhurst home we are totally updating top to bottom. This home is getting a complete facelift and what a sweet space it will be. Let's start with the kitchen.

Here's what we had to work with.

This kitchen really needed some light and space.

One of the most important updates on every one of our projects is the kitchen. Everyone wants a new kitchen and we are happy to oblige. We put careful thought into maximizing the space in each of our remodels as we know this is a big deal for future homeowners. Here's what inspired us, how we cleared the space out to the studs and the new design for the kitchen.

Demo and clean up are all a part of the fun process of transformation.

Our current project is now being drywalled - so trim, paint and cabinets are next. But before you see the finished project, we are having way too much fun sharing the before pics! (After all, that is why they call it a fixer-upper.)

Next, we drywall.

I always start by asking my favorite cabinet company to provide a great design.

After designs are rendered, we are off to the races tweaking the plan - picking cabinet colors and finishes, finding the best countertops, backsplashes, appliances, etc. This being a smaller kitchen, every inch is important. Take a look at some of our inspiration:

I think we nailed it!  Cannot wait to share the final product.  This home is about seven weeks to completion! Yahoo!

Still Time To Shop The Nordstrom Sale!
I'll never get tired of shopping this great sale!

I'll never get tired of shopping this great sale!

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is firing up all forms of social media as everyone weighs in on what they think is the best of the best. Well, this Seattle girl grew up on this sale. I remember my mom taking my sisters and me to the Anniversary Sale for back-to-school shopping starting in about junior high. I've been shopping this sale so long, I was even there when “Famolare Get There” shoes were all the rage!

A girl can never have enough booties! Get your pair here.

A girl can never have enough booties! Get your pair here.

We always got to pick out two pairs of shoes and a pair of jeans as well as several other great finds from Brass Plum (now BP). After shopping the sale, my mom made it clear that we were not allowed to wear any of our new clothes until the first day of school! It was tough deciding which pieces would make the cut. So, we carefully organized our purchases in our rooms and tried them on over and over throughout August.

As Nordstrom people here in Seattle, we still find ourselves looking forward to this sale. Whether shopping for our families, our homes or ourselves. We know what lovely people make up the Nordstrom family and the great things they have done for Seattle (and now all around the country).

So, cheers to a fun sale and great shopping!  Here is what we added to our shopping cart online and scooped up at the stores. Yes, many of the pieces we wanted were sold out on day one and two and the site got overwhelmed early, but here's to hoping they restock some of these items.  Have a great time shopping – we did!!

Obsessed with Outdoor Covered Spaces
This lounge is year-round because of the addition of a vaulted ceiling. Now that's smart square-footage!

This lounge is year-round because of the addition of a vaulted ceiling. Now that's smart square-footage!

I absolutely love the growing trend of covered outdoor spaces. Rain or shine these areas just add so much style (and square footage) to your home. In the last year, we have been busy with three projects that have included these spaces, adding value and a unique vibe to each home.

Once this fireplace with tile from Home Depot  was finished, we were ready to MOVE IN!

Once this fireplace with tile from Home Depot was finished, we were ready to MOVE IN!

At my recent project in Laurelhurst, we incorporated an outdoor space for lounging, dining, and entertaining. With the addition of a beautiful stacked stone gas fireplace, an outdoor heater and TV this space will be usable most of the year. (Even in rainy Seattle!) Choosing to vault the roof over the lounging area, we kept the area open over the eating space. Created on an elevated deck this fun entertaining space feels like a bit of a tree house. Who wouldn’t love that?!

This outdoor room is even better at night!

Make this beautiful addition to your home – you won't regret it.

Make this beautiful addition to your home – you won't regret it.

If you have been eyeing this trend of creating outdoor rooms – let your mind go wild and see how you can incorporate it into your own home. Definitely less expensive than an interior add-on, it may change the whole dynamic of your home. Bring the outside in! It is truly the best of both worlds!

Here is some inspiration for you from our project!
