First Impressions: Working on the Front Exterior of Our Inverness Home

When we bought Inverness, I knew I would be doing a big makeover on the front of this home. The curb appeal was definitely lacking. The house had a large garage front and center, no independent front walkway, the front door was shrouded in trees, and old weathered yellow siding enveloped the exterior walls. It needed an update! Here is a look at the some inspiration for our transformation and a list of what's to come:

Houses like this one from Patrick Murphy Builders are such an inspiration!

New Gable and Window over Garage

One of the most significant changes in the facade is the addition of an enclosure at the end of the pitched roof above the garage. The new feature provides needed height and adds more interest to the structure. It’s a definite boost to the aesthetic value of the home. And what gable is complete without a window?

Garage Doors

Replacing the garage doors would have been a simple enough task, but I wanted to reframe the new doors by deleting the dated chamfered corners. The new framing and garage doors will be more cohesive with my overall plan. Stay tuned for photos of whats to come. These are being ordered and installed soon.

Front Entry Improvements

Removing the existing overhang that hid the front entrance was the first part of the plan for an empactful front entry. With the help of a contemporary glass doors, visitors are now greeted with an inviting, light-filled entrance.

Siding

Installing shake and lap siding was essential in this project for bringing the new Coastal Modern feel.

Roof

We removed all the skylights and exchanged the heavy shake for an architectural-grade composite shingle roof.

Paint Plan

I want the look and feel of this home to be clean, bright, coastal, and elegant. Light-colored neutrals alongside dark contrasts will beautifully set the house up for the best first impression.

Upgrades to Front Deck/Patio

We now have the front sliders, and are working on the back. Makes me excited just thinking about how it will turn out. Pictures to come soon!

Landscaping

Plans for a fabulous new landscape including front walkway are next on my to-do list. I am so excited to start digging in!

Whether a home is on the market, or you’ve lived in it for years and never plan on leaving, you only have a few seconds to make a good impression. To set a home apart from others on the street takes time and effort. As I watch our project slowly take shape, my expectations are higher than ever!
